New Hot and New for Nov 18th
Heavenly Beat is the side project of Beach Fossils bassist John Peña. His new single "Faithless" is a lovely and simple mix of lo-fi and cheerful beats behind rather depressing lyrics. It's an interesting combination that's quite a pleasant listen.
Heavenly Beat - “Faithless”
The Orwells, a band from Chicago, just released their third album entitled Remember When. One of the songs off of this album is "Halloween All Year," a fuzzily epic (or epically fuzzy) song that's somehow simultaneously loud and subdued. Here is what I believe to be a fan-made video for the song.

The Big Pink are releasing their new album Future This on January 17th. The song "Hit the Gound (Superman)" certainly adds to the Big Pink's spacey pop-rock sound we've become familiar with. Although it doesn't partically move music boundaries or have a hugely original statement, it's a fun road-trip sort of tune that's certainly worth a listen.
Los Campesinos have a new single out called "Hello Sadness" off of their upcoming album of the same name (which came out earlier this week). It's a cheery-sounding indie pop song with what seems to be one of the most uncomfortable-to-shoot videos I've ever seen.
"By Your Hand" was the first single off of the album and you can stream its pleasant music video below:

Hot and New!
It's that time again, folks! Time for the next big names to watch out for in "indie and alternative"! Oh, and as a side note, for those of you who listen to the show and hear us say that we play "indie and alternative" music, just know the the quotation marks are generally there when we say it. The "indie" and "alternative" genres are both too enormous to really include in one radio show. Also, what exactly is alternative music? Alternative to what? And the term "indie" doesn't really mean "independent" anymore, just like "pop" refers to anything that sounds happy and peppy as opposed to "popular."
But that's a rant for another day. Because for this week's Hot and New I have some exciting things for you. They're not all new acts, as some of it's new material from established acts, but it's still new. And it's certainly hot.
Speaking of hot, first up we have a brand-spanking new band from South America. We Are Pirates is a brand new band of three friends Brazil. Their Facebook page (which you can find here), at the time of this writing, only has 16 likes. No word of an official EP or LP coming out, but I'll be sure to keep you all posted.
We Are Pirates - "Canyon"
Young Empires is releasing their new album Wake All My Youth on January 31, 2012. The first single "Enter Through The Sun" was released today and features happy-go-lucky vocals over top a steady bass-driven dance beat. Stream it below!
Young Empires - "Enter Through the Sun"
Next up is an act I'm quite excited about. We featured Archy Marshall, a teenage guy from Endland, last year when he went by the name Zoo Kid and his impressive first song "Out Getting Ribs." Now he's back with the name King Krule and released his new EP this week. The first single from that is "The Noose of Jah City."
King Krule - "The Noose of Jah City"
Korallreven, a band from Sweden, has been releasing single after single for the last couple years. This month, however, they're coming out with their first full length album entitled An Album By Korallreven which is set to come out on the 15th.
Korallreven - "As Young As Yesterday"

Tennis is coming out with their sophomore album entitled Young and Old, which is set for release February 14, 2012. After a debut release like Cape Dory, with its retro, girl groupy, happy feel, it'll be interesting to see what they come up with. It was produced by the Black Keys' drummer, Patrick Carney, so only time will tell. From what I can tell with "Origins" (which you can stream below!) it's bound to be an excellent release. It still holds true to the typical Tennis-style lo-fi vocals and cheery vibe. You can pre-order the single "Origins" as well as a self-produced B-Side called "Deep In The Woods" here.
Track Listing:
Currently unavailable, but never fear! I'll find it eventually!
Here's the first single "Origins" off of Young and Old.

Brooklyn singer/songwriter, Sharon van Etten, an extremely talented artist that we really should be promoting more, is coming out with her third album on February 7th. It's called Tramp and is the first album she's released on the record label Jagjaguwar (which is the same one used by artists such as Bon Iver and Dinosaur Jr.). The album also features an incredibly impressive round of people. Contributions to the album were made by members of Wye Oak, The National, The Walkmen, Beirut, and more.
Track Listing:
1. Warsaw
2. Give Out
3. Serpents
4. Kevin’s
5. Leonard
6. In Line
7. All I Can
8. We Are Fine
9. Magic Chords
10. Ask
11. I’m Wrong
12. Joke or a Lie
As far as I know, there has been know officially released single I can give you as a taste of the album. So instead, I'll give you a song off of her 2010 album Epic entitled "One Day."
And just because I'm sort of getting really excited about Sharon van Etten, here's a bonus song from Epic called "Don't Do It."

Cloud Nothings is releasing their sophomore album Attack on Memory on January 24th on Carpark Records. It features the single "No Furture/No Past," an incredibly mature song that that is a strong mix between Nirvana, Weezer, and Radiohead. It's quite impressive for such a young band. Give it a listen below and find them on Facebook here.

Reintroducing: Hot and New!
Once upon a time (aka when we started this show last summer) we featured a weekly segment in which we would introduce new artists and/or new albums that were either released very recently or are upcoming. This week introduces four brand new acts (in the sense that they're haven't had official releases, as well as in the sense that we've never played them on the show before) from around the world.
First up, we have Young Maverick. They're a young band from Australia set to release their debut EP Summer 2011/2012: Visit them here at their Facebook page. But first, here's a song off of their upcoming EP:
Young Maverick - "Reception Deception"
Next up we have Friends. A Brooklyn-based band, which I suppose makes them automatically hip, regardless of what their music sounded like, but luckily for them, they have the geographical location and the music to back up their "cool-factor." Visit them here at the single's Bandcamp page where you can buy it as well as a B-side. Unfortunately their name makes it nearly impossible to Google them, but you can find them on Facebook here.
Coastal Cities is a high school band based near London, England. Their first single "Thinktank" is off of their Transgressions EP set for release this fall. It's an incredibly impressive song for a band consisting of five seventeen year-old boys. Listen to more tracks over at their Myspace page or visit their Soundcloud page to listen to demos and an assortment of other songs.
And last, but certainly not least, is R E A L M A G I C. Although the name is equal parts annoying to read and even more annoying to type, the talent behind art school grad Drew Englander is certainly not annoying. He cites his influences as being "shoegaze, R&B, and Grime" and churns out effortless, synth-heavy songs with steady drum machine beats. Visit R E A L M A G I C here at his Facebook.
