Sometimes I wonder why we're still called "A View From the Afternoon." I know where the title comes from, but we broadcast from 3 to 5. And, at the moment, we're bleeding into DJ Mordecai's set, so now it's more like "A View From the Late Afternoon" or "A View From the Evening." But I get to the studio 30 minutes late every Friday now anyway, so I suppose it doesn't really make a difference. I suppose at 3 PM it still is the afternoon.
Anyways, just postin' to say "hi." Some albums I've been digging lately:
Strange Mercy by St. Vincent (2011)
- Mindfuck pop from a lady who I expected much less from. This might be my Album Of The Year so far, but Helplessness Blues says "hello."
Father, Son, Holy Ghost by Girls (2011)
- I was too out of the loop to digest Girls' 2009 record Album, but this year's outing has caught my attention and held it. I'm getting some Dinosaur Jr. vibes out of tracks like "Alex," but the album's all over the place.
And here's a little thing I like to call my "Ideal 5 Song Playlist." For the moment, here are 5 songs that I absolutely adore (right now):
1. "Weekend" by Smith Westerns
2. "Honey Bunny" by Girls
3. "Strange Mercy" by St. Vincent
4. "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" by The Smiths
5. "It's My Fault For Being Famous" by The White Stripes
These aren't necessarily songs I'm hearing for the first time, just ones I'm really into for the time being.
